Jennifer and Divyanshi Secure Silver in Historic Achievement

In a remarkable display of teamwork, India’s Jennifer Varghese and Divyanshi Bhowmick exhibited their prowess in the U-15 Girls’ Doubles semifinal, triumphing over the French-Chinese duo of Leana Hochart and Nina Guo Zheng with a resounding 3-0 victory (14-12, 11-9, 11-8). This stellar performance secured their spot in the final of the ITTF World Youth Championships, held last night in Vijayawada.

Tonight, the Indian pair is set to clash with Japan’s Yuna Ojio and Mao Takamori in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, for the ultimate showdown.

Their journey wasn’t without challenges; the Jennifer and Divyanshi duo faced a tough battle, particularly in the prolonged 14-12 game. However, they swiftly adapted their strategy, seizing a 2-0 lead against their opponents. With determination and skill, the Indian duo surged ahead, securing their berth in the final and guaranteeing themselves at least a silver—a historic accomplishment in the World Youth Championships for these junior paddlers.

In the U-15 Mixed Doubles, Jennifer joined forces with R. Abhinandan to clinch another bronze, marking a significant milestone for India by defeating the Chinese duo.

Earlier, India had already made its mark by claiming the Youth Girls under-19 bronze medal in the Team events, achieving an impressive upset victory over Egypt in the quarter-finals just days ago.
